Basic Computer Optimizations Speed:
Windows only:
statup folder - delete or move shortcuts from this folder
task manager - control panel - scheduled tasks - goto advanced menu item when scheduled tasks folder is selected and select 'stop using task scheduler' and/or delete any items in the scheduled tasks folder
program settings - turn off automatic updates and automatically start with windows in all programs
msconfig.exe - found in c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries uncheck anything you do not want to start up when u start up windows on the start up tab only (unchecking items on other tabs can keep your computer from ever booting again)
my computer properties - advanced tab - performance - set for performance will turn off themes, window shadowing etc
windows xp only - set explorer to be default when opening folders - open my computer - goto menu item tools - select folder options - under the file types tab - highlight 'folder' in the list - select advanced button - highlight 'explorer' in the list - select default button - select ok button - select apply button - select ok button
vista and windows 7 only - turn off the 3d aero interface - (instructions under construction:)
services administrator tool - turn off misc. unused and unecessary services - (instructions under construction:)
All:
graphics adapter and program properties speed optimizations -
simple method - use wizard for graphics card or program to set basic settings for 3d to performance mode (multi-monitor capable graphics adaptors check single monitor optimization mode as well)
advanced method - turn off anti aliasing, turn off anisotropic filtering, disable shadows, disable projected textures, change distance settings in 3d environments to minimum (not recomended in wow for battle grounds or exploration)
